Technical Training

Sentai offers technical application management courses for power users or Source Code Licensees.

I. Accounting System Utilities
Accounting System Utilities is the course designed to introduce you to many of the re-usable programs in the Sentai application. Elements of the training include

  • validating basic accounting data such as entities and G/L codes, tax, foreign currencies, and fiscal information
  • learning about common routines that are used by each module to generate interfaces as well as subledger reports
  • becoming familiar with Global system utilities that define variables, create standard record types, process errors, return codes, and much more
  • becoming familiar with the common routines used by many modules to process transaction inquiries
  • becoming familiar with Module-specific routines such as quantity conversion, term and margin calculation, and more
  • learning how to use utilities that do date and time manipulation, charting of data, message handling, and trigger processing

Who Should Attend?
Technical staff members with a good working knowledge of ProgressTM RDBMS will benefit the most from this training. Attending the "Sentai Customization and Maintenance" and "Introduction to the Sentai Workbook" courses is recommended but not required.

II. Advanced File Structures
With Trax Distribution:Solutions' over 500 tables and over 5000 fields, it can be difficult for a developer to put all that information into perspective.

The Advanced File Structures course is an opportunity for you to get an overall understanding of the important tables in Sentai as well as a look at the interactions between all the tables and modules. Elements of this course include knowledge about 

  • the standards and conventions that we use in the Sentai and workbook databases
  • the use of Triggers in the Sentai database
  • the Workbook tables and how you can use them to speed up your development or customization efforts
  • many of the system configuration tables and how the data that they contain affects the operation of your applications
  • the major tables in each module along with the interaction between those modules
  • details about all the "master" tables in Sentai: Product, Customer, Supplier, and more
  • the transaction tables in each module: how they are similar and how they are unique
Who Should Attend?
Technical staff members with a good working knowledge of ProgressTM RDBMS. Some experience or application training on the outer workings of Sentai would be beneficial but is not mandatory.


III. Customization and Maintenance Techniques
This is a course designed to teach you the critical concepts that you will need to successfully install, maintain, and customize Sentai applications. Learning the most efficient way to work in Sentai before you begin customization will save you time and money, both now and in the future. This is the most important technical course that Sentai offers. Learning the intended use and the structure of Sentai applications is the first and most important step towards successful customization and maintenance of your Sentai system. This course will give you the opportunity to learn, see, and discuss the "right way" to customize - before you begin any projects. Some of the knowledge that you will gain from this course includes 

  • the basics of installing Sentai on your system - including all of the options that you have regarding system and database configuration
  • tips and tricks about tuning a Sentai database
  • techniques for writing custom code with an eye for streamlining future maintenance and upgrade efforts
  • upgrades and how to apply them to an existing Sentai database - with particular emphasis on upgrading customized functions and code
  • details on many Workbook utilities that you can use in database maintenance and customization

Who Should Attend?
Any Developer or System Administrator who will be installing, maintaining, or customizing a Sentai database and application.

IV. Introduction to Sentai Workbook
This is a course designed to introduce developers to the Sentai development environment. It will give you a good working knowledge of the database structure and the common Workbook tools that will allow you to create or modify Sentai screens and reports quickly and efficiently. Elements of this course include 

  • the standards and development rules that Sentai uses in-house to maintain reusability and maintainability in our code
  • a review of the entire Sentai and Workbook database structures to show you the relationships between the tables and modules
  • an introduction to database setup which includes building your own custom database
  • the intricacies of function and help records and how to use them to link different programs together quickly and easily
  • how to use the lookup, setup, update, and notes templates to allow you to create table browse and maintenance routines at the touch of a key
  • how to review the transaction templates in a tutorial to learn the basics of how transaction entry programs are created and maintained
  • how to write reports and lists using still more Workbook templates in order to standardize system output with the same look and feel

Throughout the course, you will setup your own development environment and use the Workbook templates in exercises for true hands-on experience. A must for Programmers who wish to create and maintain custom code

Who Should Attend?
Technical staff members with a good working knowledge of ProgressTM RDBMS. Some experience or application training on the outer workings of Sentai would be beneficial but is not mandatory.

V. Sales Order Technical Training
Take a detailed look at Sentai Sales Order Processing - one of the most complex areas within Sentai Software - and learn all of the tips and techniques used by our developers to create and modify advanced Sentai functionality. Elements of this course include 

  • close examination of the database tables involved in the sales order module and how they interact with each other
  • a detailed look at each of each major code segment within Sales Order Entry
  • advanced help record manipulation techniques
  • the reusable code modules/include files in sales order and case studies to help you understand each System, user, and operator settings and how they affect transaction processing
  • linked document concepts and the flow of information from sales order to other modules
  • inventory integration issues such as IM-trans creation, pricing, lot/serial numbers, and special order products
  • a detailed analysis of the document flow from a quote all the way to the invoicing process
  • using the workbook tools to allow mailing of documents from one user to another
  • advanced concepts in the transaction templates
  • case studies and exercises throughout the week allow you to apply the knowledge in practical examples

Who Should Attend?
Technical staff members with a good working knowledge of ProgressTM RDBMS who have taken the "Introduction to Workbook" course or who have worked with Sentai for 2 months or more.
